The Lake of Three Fires is considered to be one of Iowa’s finest with its seven hundred acres of picturesque woodlands and 85 acres of beautiful lake. The Potawatomi tribe combined with two other tribes to form a confederacy referred to as “Three Fires”. Each tribe would light a fire to signal the location of council meetings. This location is now known as the waters for the park. The three fires were kept burning until the three tribes were no longer together. The Lake of Three Fires was dedicated in 1935. Lake of Three Fires offers simple sixty-nine tent campsites, thirty RV hookups, twenty-six equine campsites, and recently renovated cabins to meet whatever camping style meets your needs. The cabins are completely equipped with air conditioning and showers and restrooms. The beach features a great place to get a tan, play on the sand volleyball courts, or take a dip. Throughout the park there are horseshoe pits, disc golf setups and open areas to set up desired games. There is a boat ramp accommodating to all boats, and any size boat is allowed in the lake at “no wake” speed to enjoy fishing experiences. Large picnic areas are set-up around the park with two shelters that can be reserved. The park contains eight miles of marked trails for walking, running, and horseback riders to experience the park’s beauty. Lake of Three Fires Park is considered to be one of Iowa’s most scenic parks.
