The Taylor County Fair was started October 7, 1857 just north of Bedford and was then moved to its current location in 1876 after the current track was built. It was used for Harness Races for many years and was considered to be the best track in southwest Iowa for racing. Harness Racing made a comeback in 1995 and still continues to grow in popularity. Taylor County hosts one a year at the track.
The Taylor County Fair is held the 3rd full week-end in July with popular attractions as the Tractor Pull, Bull Riding and Demolition Derby. The tractor pull has always been a big event at the fair.  People from all over come to compete and watch tractors and trucks pull as much weight as they can across a stretch of dirt.  Bull riding brings in people from all over as it is a popular event to watch in southwest Iowa, and always guarantees a good show.  The Demolition Derby is considered one of the best in Iowa so people from all over Iowa, Missouri, and Nebraska come and compete against each other.
Besides the Tractor Pull, Bull Riding, and Demolition Derby the Taylor County Fair offers things to meet everyone’s likes.  One young lady a year receives the honor of being selected as the Taylor County Fair Queen.  This young lady represents the county at the State Fair competing to be the State Fair Queen.  The fair is also host to the annual 4-H and FFA project and livestock competition.  Students involved in 4-H and FFA throughout the year complete projects or raise livestock to be judged.  The fair board brings in judges who have expertise in certain genres to judge the projects and livestock competitively and fairly.  A fun event the fair host is the baby contest.  Family members bring their infants to twenty-four month old children and have interaction with one another.  After the children and families interact an award is handed out to every participant.  Bedford Area Development Center also hosts a pie and cake auction annually.  Also the Industries Building is host to a center for fairgoers to get information on county businesses.  Businesses can rent booths and bring information and fun items to hand out to everyone who passes through.
The Taylor County Fair always guarantees each customer the best time.
