Interesting historical spots, numerous shopping opportunities, enjoyable community events, and excellent recreational opportunities are among the many things Bedford, Iowa has to offer its community.
Bedford offers some of the best antique shopping in the region.  Take a stroll on our historic red brick streets and enjoy the Victorian era architecture that has been restored in our business district and residential areas.  Check out the Garland Hotel which once housed outlaw Jesse James.  The gift shop offers original memorabilia from the hotel.  Also stop by and see the old Conoco Station now host to the Bedford Area Development Center.  Both the Garland Hotel and the Conoco Station are featured on the National Historic Register.  If you would like to further dig deeper into our history visit Taylor County Historical Museum.  Bedford has the honor of housing the largest, most active museum south of Des Moines.  The Taylor County Historical Museum resides on over 4 acres of land just outside of town along highway 2 housing several historical buildings.
Two new additions to downtown are the Ahrens Memory Garden and a mural located on Court St portraying a street screen of the Courthouse from times past.
Whether you are a resident, a business or a visitor, Bedford would like to welcome you to enjoy highlights of the city’s lively way of living.
